Moms and Dads out there, don't forget to take your flu shot. If you are like me, you make sure your kids take theirs as soon as the vaccinations come out, but you never bother to get yours done. Life gets in the way of your good intentions. Well, I tested positive for the flu yesterday and I feel like I was run over by a mack truck. That being said, this is going to be the shortest blog in the history of the world.
GO GET YOUR FLU SHOT!!!! It is not too late.
Thanks,
Lisa

Is there something special you would like to share?????
I received an email this week about a friend from Denton Creek whose child received a special award. I thought it was really cool and included the information in the newsletter. That got me thinking, I bet there are a lot of DCE kiddos out there who are doing fabulous things. Why not share that information? If your child received an honor or special award, please email me the information and a picture (if you want) and I will do my best to include it in the newsletter. Most all the teachers read the newsletter and I am sure they would love reading about their students. I know I would love to hear about them.
So send me some ideas, info and pictures. I can't wait to share!!!!

Look for new technology in the classrooms....
At last the technology purchased with our fall matching funds has begun to arrive in our classrooms. The itouches were seen last in the arms of Tim D'Amico as he was hurrying with them down the hall to begin the first "sync" (he looked just like my 6 year old did on Christmas morning). The last few smartboards started arriving last week and should be installed into their classes very soon. I know Stacey Chiang will be thrilled (along with many other teachers), she just happens to be the loudest whisperer into my ear. Projectors should be going in or are already hanging allowing some teachers to finally be able to use their smartboards. It is exciting. As parents and contributors to your PTO, you have provided these items. Ask your kiddos if they have seen them and used them. It will take time for each classroom to be able to "touch the new touches" but within 2 weeks, I think every child should have had the opportunity to use one in their classroom. Ask yours. Stay involved. Does your family already have an itouch or ipad at home? If so, ask your child's teacher what apps they will be using in class. You could purchase the same one at home and your child could practice in the comfort of your home and you could see what they are doing while at school. This is exciting stuff and we are so lucky at Denton Creek to have such a great support system that we are able to provide our teachers and students with these gifts.
Don't forget our biggest fundraiser is set for Saturday, February 26th. The second annual Great Escape Dinner and Auction will be held at Grapevine Springs in Coppell and will be catered by Uncle Julio's. It is sure to be a wonderful event and a great way to raise money for our spring match. Look for information this week in your child's folder.
See you soon,
Lisa

Upcoming Adult Dinner Auction
Last year, we had our very first adult only dinner and auction. It was held at Riverchase Golf Club in late February. Part 2 is scheduled for Saturday, February 26th at 7pm. Tickets will go on sale soon. I think everyone had a really good time last year (I know that I did). There was a buffet style dinner, a DJ for dancing, a silent auction and a live auction. Let me tell you, the live auction was CRAZY!!!! Some of our husbands (no names) got a bit competitive and made some wonderfully, ridiculous bids. I am sure many of you saw the UT flag hanging in the gym this year, we made over $2000 on that bid alone last year. I, like many of you, would like to see it gone this year.....
How can you get involved?
* You can buy tickets and attend the event (bring your checkbook). Come, eat, party, socialize, bid, HAVE FUN!
* Do you own a business? Please consider donating an item to our silent auction or live auction. You can just reply to this newsletter and your reply will be forwarded to the right person. This is a tax deductible donation.
* Do you have a skill that someone might enjoy? Can you cook? Can you sew? Can you bake cakes? Please consider donating something fun. An example of a silent auction item might be: A lovely 3 course dinner for 6 catered by Sally Homemaker at your home.
* Do you want to help with the planning or decorating? We have a wonderful team of people working to put together the auction under the management of Julie Albright and Sheila Pensotti. We need all the help we can get. If you are interested, please reply to this newsletter.
The auction this year will be held at Grapevine Springs Park in the new Community Center. It is sure to be gorgeous. I hope you will all make plans to attend. Not only is it a great evening of fun, it is also a HUGE fundraiser for our school. Please look for more information coming home in the next few weeks in your children's folders.
I have attached some pictures from last year's event. Enjoy!
