Artsonia- VERY COOL!

Our fabulous art teacher has introduced a program called Artsonia to Denton Creek this year.  It is really cool.  Each child's artwork is uploaded into their system and the parent's (who have signed up) are notified of a new piece.  They can then view their child's artwork.  You can have that artwork printed on mugs, shirts, prints or wait until the end of the year and create a book of masterpieces (then you can throw the giant ones away).  I LOVE this thing.  Up until this week, we had only two lovely moms trying to keep up with 500 students artwork.  Starting this week, we have at least one person assigned to each grade.  So expect to see a lot of new artwork being uploaded in the next few weeks.  If you have not signed up for your account to Artsonia, contact the art teacher, Nancy Neergaard, at nneergaard@coppellisd.com.  She will hook you up.  This would make for great Valentine's cards for the grandparents.  If you have a student at North, you can upload their drawings by taking a picture or scanning it in and then you could make a matching book for them.

We are looking for a 5th grade parent helper.  If you can help us to upload some 5th grade art, we would appreciate it.  We are covered in each of the other grades.

Thank you so much!

Big Changes at Denton Creek

Wow, when you walk through the halls at Denton Creek these days, you will see some big changes.  Donna Johnson, who has been with Denton Creek for years, has left to work in the administrative offices for CISD.  She will be greatly missed.  Bryan of course didn't miss a beat hiring Nan Yeager to replace Donna.  Many of you know Nan.  She has worked for the past year in the ABC classroom full time.  For the last few years she has subbed in a variety of classes.  Nan will do a great job and we congratulate her on her new position.  I already love the new way she has her desk set up!  Liz Romeike is back:) !  Liz is back in the ABC class and back at Denton Creek where she belongs!  Welcome back, Liz.  Brenda Craven, our wonderful vice principal, has taken some time off to go be with her mom who is recovering from health problems.  Please join me in praying for them.  John Clark, who was a long time sub for Mrs. Melton's 4th grade class, is now helping Bryan as the temporary vice principal.  The kids LOVE him!  He is such a great person and has such a wonderful disposition.  We are lucky to have him.  Speaking of Cheryl Melton, welcome back Cheryl.  You were missed in your absence.  There is more I could list here, but this is a good start.  It is overwhelming.  Hope this note helps you on your next visit to DCE!

Best wishes for a wonderful week!

Evening PTO Meeting Scheduled!

Hello everyone.  Hope you have enjoyed your 3 day weekend.  Teachers, sorry you are stuck at work today, but hope you are enjoying your speaker.  I have had a great weekend.  We went to the zoo, a movie and just hung out.  FABULOUS!

As my 2 year term of President and prior 2 year term as Vice President, comes to a close, I was thinking about what I hoped I had accomplished over the last 4 years.  My biggest goal was to make the PTO more accessible and more welcoming to everyone.  I think that I have gone far in achieving that goal, but I think there is still room for improvement.  To move toward better accessibility, we have scheduled an evening PTO meeting for Tuesday, February 7, from 6-7 pm.  This will be an informational meeting for parents to be able to attend, who are usually unable to attend due to work conflicts.  Everyone is invited.  We will hold the meeting in the library and hope to see everyone there.  We will discuss what events are remaining in the school year and how you can participate.

I hope that you can all attend.

Half down- half to go...

I cannot believe that it is 2012.  I am actually staggered by typing that.  The good news for school is that by this time of the year, the kids are really settled and our jobs as parents and volunteers is just to keep this smooth ship sailing.  That being said it is NEVER too late to get involved.  If you have been scared to get involved at the school for whatever reason, please don't be.  If no one ever asked you for help, let me be the one to ask.  I honestly can say that I am up at the school so much that most of the kids recognize my face and so many of them greet me in the hallway that I know those hours make a difference.  I promise you that any time that you can spare will make someone's life a bit better; maybe a child you help in the library, or a teacher for whom you make copies and who now has time to sit and have a glass of water during her break, or a box top chairperson who just can't count one more box top this year.  It will matter and you are appreciated.

Thank you for all you do, however you do it.  Happy New Year!
